Laurel Vaurasi

Career Highlights

Laurel Vaurasi is the founding partner of Shekinah Law, which she established in 2009. With over 25 years of legal experience across Australia and Fiji, she has built a distinguished career in both private practice and in-house roles. Her professional journey began as a law clerk at the Native Land Trust Board in Fiji, followed by work at the Crown Office in Queensland and in private practice in New South Wales. Upon returning to Fiji in 1998, she worked in private practice focusing on conveyancing and litigation, later serving as in-house counsel for the Carpenters Fiji Ltd group, managing finance and employment matters. She subsequently became a partner in a prominent Suva firm, where she handled major investment and commercial development projects. In 2007, Laurel was appointed Head of the Legal Department for the Fiji National Provident Fund before founding Shekinah Law.

Laurel is widely recognised for her leadership in the legal profession. She made history as the first female President of the Fiji Law Society, serving a four-year term during which she drove significant reforms and growth for the Society alongside her Council members. She also serves on several corporate and not-for-profit boards in Fiji, including as a Board member and Legal Advisor to Scripture Union Fiji.

As a dual-accredited mediator (Singapore Mediation Centre and Fiji Mediation Office), she brings a highly skilled, impartial, and culturally sensitive approach to resolving disputes outside of court. Her mediation practice complements her extensive litigation background, offering clients efficient and constructive pathways to settlement in complex commercial, family, employment, and civil matters.

Laurel is the proud mother of two sons and two daughters. Outside of work and family, she enjoys reading, travelling, and doing community works.
