Shekinah Law was founded in 2009 by Laurel Vaurasi in Fiji during a period of significant constitutional and professional challenge. Named after the Hebrew word for “the divine presence of God,” the firm opened its doors in the same week the 1997 Constitution was abrogated. Despite widespread court closures, Shekinah Law experienced remarkable growth, attracting international clients from the outset.
A landmark early success came in Fiji’s first Hague Abduction case, where the firm successfully defended a mother’s right to keep her child in Fiji, setting a legal precedent. Since then, the firm has expanded into Family Law, Adoption, Not-for-Profit, Commercial & Company Law, Estates, Wills, Civil Litigation, and selected Criminal matters.
